Tibetan Mantra Banner Flag.
Mantra flags are printed on fabrics traditionally in blue, white, red, green and yellow. They are usually in groups of five and always in the same order.
The five colors represent the five families of Buddha and the five elements: blue for space and sky, white for air and clouds, red for fire, green for water and yellow, which is earth.
Lung Ta flags.
Lung Ta, means horse of the wind. They are a constant presence that from the top of pagodas, roofs and trees symbolize a never-ending festival that is celebrated by filling the atmosphere with joy.
The main purpose of prayer flags is to be hung where the wind can carry and implement the blessings.
The sun, wind and rain eventually fade or wear away over time, subtly reminding us that everything is transitory and temporary.
The Tibetan culture
We also know that Buddhist flags are hung especially during Losar or the Tibetan New Year. This period coincides with the new moon in February, when they are massively integrated into the landscape.
They are part of the Tibetan culture, a tradition that remains linked to the beliefs of the local population.
Another of their characteristics is that they are rectangular in shape and are placed horizontally.
The uses of the flags of Tibet.
They are generally hung from top to bottom if possible diagonally. Most often, from the highest part of a house to a tree below.
It is also customary to place them in the windows, to receive their blessings with the wind.
It is important to consider that the flags should not touch the ground. Try to place them high up, so that they are as far off the ground as possible.
If the flags deteriorate over time, it is advisable to try to hang them up, if they tear, they can be tied. When they are really too degraded they can be burned and the ashes spread to the wind. Do not throw them in the garbage.
