A Chinese Tea Tray, Japanese Inspired.
As tradition dictates, it is customary to pour your hot water over your Gaiwan or teapot to maintain the teapot’s temperature. For this, this tea tray is also used for rinsing cups, leaves, and preparing the tea infusion in the teapot.
A tray to collect the rinsing waters from tea preparation.
This draining tea tray is traditionally made in Hu-Dian in Fujian. The texture of this ceramic is called “Wanhua,” as its appearance is matte, both glossy, rough, and soft to the touch. This ceramic quality is fired in a kiln that deliberately exposes the earthenware to flames. It is a very high-temperature firing at over 1300 degrees Celsius. It is a magnificent tea accessory that will take its full place during the Gong-Fu-Cha ceremony.
