How to succeed in the Matcha Tea Ceremony?
Bring a little water to a boil. Remove the kettle from the heat and let it cool down without the lid for about 2 minutes to reach the ideal temperature of 70°.
Meanwhile:
- Rinse your Chawan (bowl) with hot water.
- Using the Chashaku (bamboo spoon), put 1 to 2 spoons of your Matcha in your Chawan.
- Use your Chasen (bamboo whisk) to mix the powder with a few drops of water. This step serves to break up lumps and produces a creamier cup with more foam.
- Pour the water at 70° into the bowl. Squeeze the bowl firmly and whisk the matcha quickly, making “m” or “w” motions and moving up and down. Whip until frothy.
- Stop when the foam is formed and the color turns emerald green. Then serve in a teacup.
- Enjoy the tasting!
