How to succeed in the Matcha Tea Ceremony?

Bring some water to a boil. Remove the kettle from the heat and let it cool without the lid for about 2 minutes to reach the ideal temperature of 70°.

Meanwhile:

  1. Rinse your Chawan (bowl) with boiling water.
  2. Using the Chashaku (bamboo scoop), put 1 to 2 scoops of your Matcha into your Chawan.
  3. Use your Chasen (bamboo whisk) to mix the powder with a few drops of water. This step breaks up clumps and produces a creamier cup with more foam.
  4. Pour the 70° water into the bowl. Hold the bowl firmly and whisk the matcha quickly, making “m” or “w” shapes and moving up and down. Whisk until frothy.
  5. Stop when foam forms and the color turns emerald green. Then serve in a tea cup.
  6. Enjoy your drink!

Recommendations on matcha tea:

It is customary to use 1 volume of Matcha for 12 to 14 volumes of water. These amounts can be adjusted according to personal taste.

  • Weight: 200 g per bag.
  • Ingredients: finely ground green tea powder 🍵.
