White tea is one of the most delicate varieties of tea, as its processing requires very controlled conditions. It is obtained from the very young leaves of the tea tree, Camelia Sinensis. Its harvest is limited to 2 or 3 weeks in the year. For these reasons, the production of white tea is slightly more expensive than other abundant traditional teas.

Characteristics of white tea and differences with other teas.

Because white tea leaves do not suffer from oxidation (or it is minimal), white tea contains the least amount of Theine or caffeine (about 15 mg per cup). On the other hand, it is one of the teas that contains the most catechins and polyphenols. These two molecules are at the origin of the benefits of tea on humans and on health. This concentration is based on the selection of young tea shoots and the drying process of white tea, however:

  • White tea comes from the same species of tea tree and has the same origin as all the varieties like black, green, red, etc.

Properties and benefits of white tea.
